Honey, we are always by your side
mourning beside you, your shipwrecked pride
in the bitter marsh meadows of old Doggerland
standing in rose mallow, flowers in your hands

woods you remembered gone long since
now it’s nothing but dog rose, currants and quince
luminous rainclouds, mother of pearl
kindly reminders of the other worlds

You are a bright fire and it burns you plainly
you’re an arch, a spire, an old quatrain
we come home in holy moments
home to the heartwood, humming your name

Look at the flowers, pretty shepherd’s purse
Cowslip and coltsfoot, alder and birch
hazel and honeysuckle, little celandine
flowers are happy, honey, in your great blue green

at the last western holdout, look towards the sea
out to the islands, and think of me
