“Slide”, the first single from Sy Smith’s 6th studio album “Until We Meet Again” (executive producer Phonte Coleman), doesn’t sound like anything she’s ever released. This steamy uptempo begins with flamenco-like handclaps, then proceeds to glide elegantly like a Rolls Royce, with Sy’s voice riding the chordal curves like Diana Ross meeting Marvin Gaye at some afterparty in heaven. Then the percussive pre-chorus instantly changes lanes as Sy sings “start the clock, I can’t wait anymore...it’s unlocked, I’m standing by the door. You can watch me work, head to the floor...”. This is not a “who all gon’ be there” affair. It’s just you and Sy.
