i like to say my thank yous with my goodbyes
and i don't much care for goodbyes
i get nervous to give one without a reply

i stand in the shower and think of how to get your attention
i want to be interesting so badly i might explain all my intentions
i create tension in the air if you can feel it

i like to say my i love yous with my goodbyes
and i don't much care to lie crumpled and defeated and sweaty with any other
i could whisper it and not expect a reply

does everyone think they're boring?
surely you don't
you have bright eyes and see things brightly

i'm dull. i even take interest in your snoring
surely you don't think about the patterns in my breathing or
why i tense up so tightly and release
making patterns like the ones you draw on my skin

i towel dry but wish i could still smell you
i've never noticed it so soon with no idea of the reply
