Evidence by Deli Girls

Sweat Equity is thrilled to present its newest release, a full-length record from New York’s Deli Girls that marks a continued evolution of both projects, pushing the group’s unique brand of full-on sonic assault to new levels of articulation and power.

Having worked together for over three years, the duo of Tommi Kelly and Danny Orlowski have built a reputation for the staggering energy and speed of their live sets (including one of the more intense performances Bossa Nova Civic Club has seen in recent memory. Jagged synth lines, and blown-out drum machines dot their compositions, with sudden changes in pacing and texture throwing the listener through twisted, warped sonic landscapes, all punctuated by Orlowski’s fierce screams and chants. It’s a sound that manages to address the lineages of electronic music, noise and punk that runs through New York’s musical history.

With Evidence, the duo focuses their raw energy into a tightly-packed long-player, blistering through an unbroken progression of arrangements. Over eight tracks, the duo pull together any number of musical touchstones, punctuating full-on gabber sprints with hardcore breakdowns, chopping samples of dog barks and guitar stabs into a dizzying swirl of noise, all capped with vocals railing against sexual violence, surveillance and political control. “I’ll feed him Plan B that he bought for me, then I’ll leave him for dead” Orlowski yells in the titular “Evidence,” a line as comically overblown as it is intense in its delivery. It’s this sense of delivery, of raw shock and sonic power that makes Deli Girls one of New York’s most compelling young acts.

Recorded with Max Eisenberg (DJ Dog Dick) and mixed/mastered by Sweat Equity’s own Andrew Nerviano (Plebeian), the record is a fitting testament to the group’s depth and intensity, as well as its tight connection to the broader New York musical community.
