Dereliction from Black Lights by Susy Wall

This was the second song that was inspired by the collaboration between Liz Berry and Tom Hicks, after reading their book, The Dereliction. The poem and the image evoke a sense of abandon, a reckless openness to change and adventure. I’d been playing about with a new guitar tuning at the time – DADGAD - which was commonly used by Led Zeppelin, notably in their incredible track, Kashmir. It felt fitting then, to use similar guitar shapes to those that the Black Country legend Robert Plant sang along to, 50 years ago. The track also includes the sublime fiddle playing of Aaron Catlow which felt like a musical kite flying recklessly throughout the song.
