Blue from Black Lights by Susy Wall

This track started life as an homage to the blue skies that Tom Hicks (Black Country Type) seems to always capture in his amazing photography of the Black Country. However, it quickly became something very different after using a series of loops to create a more pensive, repetitive track that touches on the concept of blue as a perspective, rather than a colour.
Working with poet Claire Tedstone on the spoken word was a real joy as we both seemed to share the same vision for the essence of the track and collaborating on the spoken word together was a truly natural thing to do and something we both hope to explore further down the line.

Blue, blue is the colour of your eyes
When you’ve been crying and you’re tired of trying to be someone you don’t know
Blue is the colour
Blue, blue is the colour of the sky
Before its tainted by the clouds that seem to build up in your mind when you’re too busy looking down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down

Below the bridge the canal cuts a ribbon of impossible blue through the grey
As cloudless skies are mirrored
and sun shimmers on water
Grey clouds gather overhead and the black and white of a magpie in flight
makes for a monochrome road ahead
And beneath black Delph
tears fall
Then, bursting through towpath cracks you spot the resilient blue of
forget-me-not
And you begin to remember all the things you never even knew you forgot
You realise you’ve lived your life looking but not seeing
So you shift your view
And lift your eyes
to a sky that is blue.
