I can almost see her
standing in the doorway to the world
her hand stretched out, inviting me
I start to feel the fear
rising up and proving once again
I'm not the man I try to be
I know I'll never get that chance again
but when the lights go down it's easy to pretend

I sit alone in darkness
where I can't see the doubt before my eyes
but it's still there in spite of me
I walk along in daylight
and make no explanation for the thoughts
that I can hide inside of me
They come again at the closing of the day
and as the lights go down I slowly fade away

In dreams I have the courage
to take another step into the future,
to face what I'm not sure of
In dreams I move the mountains
that stand between my mind and my emotions
and take the place of your love

I'm flying through the silence
and I can see the real world far below
too far away to even hear
if only I could stay here
and live the years of my life in this dream
my heart so free, my mind so clear
I know that wishes like mine don't come true
But when my eyes are closed I don't try to see through

In dreams I have the courage
