Straight Ahead by The Jimmies

At the end of 1993, The Jimmies were well in control of their raw improvisational style.

Here is the interplay and invention of three instruments feeding off and against each other in real time with little more than the will to plow forward and create on the fly. There is time and non-time at the same time as they weave around an implied flexible structure, each making their own space to coexist in the moment.

There are no predetermined heads or chord changes or specific keys or modes- it is a music of communication, of listening and reacting. Sometimes it sounds almost like planned songs, but more often it is dancing chaos of notes matching the fluidity of a thousand starlings in flight. So adept that they can attack, turn, stop on a dime and pivot to another direction, they lead and follow simultaneously, they carve each path like three pillars - three floating pillars.

This musical architecture is more akin to juggling than following fixed charts. It is raw and immediate from every edge: pure invention, pure music spirit fresh and hot off the griddle.

Headed by the core of Baird, Malinoski, Weaver -known then as Alice and currently as Pipestem- here is recorded evidence of those groups of like minds and their experiments, expressions and musical adventures that spread beyond KY from New England to AZ and beyond.
