Bloodstar by Steve Peplin

Bloodstar is a noise/metal/blues/avant-garde solo guitar album.
Thick distortion and/or fuzz throughout inform a lot of my musical decisions here, among strong feelings of unrest, frustration and ennui that cannot be assuaged by playing Misty, Red House or Stella. There is some joy here, as well.

This music reminds me of the time (age 16) that I emptied out my new bank account of 700 bucks to buy a Marshall half-stack. My parents and sister returned home from somewhere to the din of an alien ship-wreck. The poor neighbors heard it too (hello, dear Tim). There I was, shirtless, with a faux Gibson Explorer tuned down to C# standard, standing in front of the behemoth of an amp that hummed like a cracked nuclear reactor, aware of my lack of skill, but deep in the early bliss of the devoted acolyte.

Some major influences on this record include John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Jimmy Garrison, Darrell Lance Abbot, Jack Grassel, Sonny Sharrock, Cliff Burton and Gustave Holst, among others.
