emanations 3 by steven leak

"emanations 3" is the third release in a series i've called "emanations~ rawsongs". "raw" because they are entirely that. a little bit of polishing, no mastering . . . field recordings matched with soundscapes that i create in my little studio.

these rawsongs are the sonic equivalent of the rough drawings and sketches i create before i paint. some of them end up in part or in whole on polished releases . . . collaborations with other musicians and more polished solo work.
as an example of how the "rawsongs" work, very recently two music releases came into being for me as a result of a strange occurrence.
i was programming some sequences for some "someday perhaps to be released" music. i popped them all into my laptop to work and play with, and i was surprised that one of them was utterly glitchy and had something of an unrecognizable vocal presence that i couldn't connect with the source signal i know i was recording.
i've heard these sounds on shortwave and then also on long distance calls my mum would make possible for us to connect with my dad when he was in canada in the mid-sixties..
so i worked and played with it.
it's here, tucked in alongside field recordings of rain, cooking sounds, clicks of machinery being turned on and off, some sounds from my arturia minifreak straight up and into a live mic and then of course, a lot of treatments.
true to the aesthetic of the "emanations" series, it is entirely raw.
not mastered.
