I’m carving lines out of the crosswalk
carving lines to make a desirable path
I’m angling my stride in the most logical of ways
I’m thinking who designed it in spite of it

I’m chasing fate down
I try to rewind it
barter it out, it’s what I make
but I’d hate to think so rigidly
and overcompensate

maybe there’s a wrong choice
like a needle in the hay
I wanna know if it’s obvious
will I know it when I feel that way

taking my time now
carving lines to make a valuable mistake

you come at me softly
you set the direction
out for me
and I want it so badly
maybe I’m not cut out for this
flawed design in the landscape
I’m pricked by the needle
is this what it was set out to be

leaning in into the sharp points
lying in the hay like I’m trusting the path
regardless of intent
I land in the right place
but I can look back and wonder how
