Brekaria by Stationary Movement

Brekaria was written and recorded between April 2019 and February 2021. The release of this project was originally scheduled around Fall 2020 but got delayed due to transitions and setbacks. This project is a companion piece to chordata, released in April 2019. Together, the two are Brekaria chordata-a fictional species that serves as a visual of juxtaposition.

Brekaria is a project centered around rhythm samples or "breaks." The samples used for these loops originate from various field recordings collected between 2017 and 2019. Many other field recordings and sourced samples ornament these rhythm loops along with an array of acoustic instruments and electronic frequencies.

Brekaria and chordata are the only two Stationary Movement projects to feature the cherished and now passed-on Cable Nelson piano. All of the songs on chordata and most of the ideas on Brekaria were written on that piano.

Half of all proceeds from this project will be donated to the Native American Rights Fund. This organization aims to preserve tribal existence, protect tribal natural resources, promote Native American human rights, hold governments accountable to Native Americans, and develop Indian law and educate the public about Indian rights, laws, and issues.
