Winter's Game from 2012 DEKA by Starfish Stories :: The Band

Ivan: "Winter's Game was my first conscious attempt to compose a postrock track. The backstory here: http://myrightbrain.wordpress.com/2011/12/21/discovering-post-rock btw. Composing this track was my way of learning what makes a post rock, you know, post rock. I emailed the band what they thought about the sound and genre. Half expected them to ignore my mail. I-Ling: "After doing some Googling and YouTubing, I suddenly realised that I was also exposed to the genre indirectly long, long ago, without realising it. I used to listen to Faye Wong and her ex-hubby Dou Wei a lot. And they were going in the ambience/post-rock/post-punk/folk direction back then. Faye Wong was heavily influenced by The Cocteau Twins and her ex. You can imagine the reactions I got when I tried my hand at writing Mandarin songs with this sort of sounds. Then again, the Mandarin music scene only opened up to alternative sounds this couple of years. But that's another story for another time. " ~ 20 Dec 2011

Ivan: "You could say this track led to the DEKA album. And why the title? 'Cos we created the track in Dec and I thought, 'Singapore doesn't have winters in December but what the heck...'"
