Finding Me by Strangely Shaped By Fathers

“Finding Me” began as a series of poems I wrote in the summer of 2019. I work as a teacher and in the midst of the summer holidays I was overtaken by the familiar sensation of feeling like myself for the first time in a long time. It happens every year. Six weeks without work and you suddenly realise how much of your true being is compromised by the demands of your job. From the amount of sleep you can get, to the clothes you can wear and even down to the things you’re allowed to say. Our jobs smother our identities in the conformity of professionalism. You start to feel like yourself just as September comes around and then it’s time to put on the suit and tie once again...

...I would find myself just in time to lose myself again.

“Finding Me” is an EP dealing with those feelings that overcame me last summer. A look in the mirror at who I am and what’s important...and how easy it can sometimes be to lose grip on that. It was written between January and April 2020, with half the songs, and the entire recording, completed, in my house, during the Covid-19 lockdown here in the UK.
