Well I made myself a fool down in Ashland
Threw my heart into a dusty chest
In the cool shade of the trees
In a world of blue and green
I stepped across the plane into the odd world

I saw you dancing all by your lonesome
Needed someone else to match your steps
I said dance with me if you may
But you looked the other way
Your eyes were closed, you were in another world

As time goes by a fog obscures reality
As years go by the story begins to change
Was it all a dream
Or was it grounded in fact?
I guess we’ll never know, just the same

Send the cat down to the basement
Waters rising to my nose
Is it a figment of imagination
Or has the world around us shifted hues
You could tell me anything right now
And I’d believe you, as it is, as we are
I can only think of you this way
But were you even there at all?

The sky fell down when the sun awoke that morning
The weather seems to always follow my mood
When the sky is blue and clear
I am free of all my fears
When the sky is dark I think of seasons past

To this day, I admit I never knew you
Never saw your eyes or caught your name
But with time I’ve come to say
That I’m a better man today
