Getting off shift of ten long hours
And coming home to drizzling showers
Making just enough and barely just enough
To pay the babysitter to put the fuckin' kids to bed

Same long shifts for fifteen years
Labor this long to fight back the tears
And giving yourself a family vacation
Maybe go to Branson
It's just enough to get in your head

Teaching them schoolbooks to mathematicians
Reading and writing, history and diction
Making just enough to take home groceries
The super center's open but the rest of this town is dead

Thirty-two hours in dank call centers
Talking on headsets and dialing out numbers
Some of them answer but working that quota
Gets harder and harder when they don't wanna hear what you said

Cleaning them bathrooms, they're pulling all-nighters
Serving up students down at the diner
The customers come and they stay all night
But the tips aren't enough to push her over the edge
