BEYOND – THE CONCEPT

I remember from my youth as an avid rock music fan the idea of the difference between a simple LP and the much-spoken about concept album whose contents were much more than a simple collection of songs, more a holistic theme-link threading through the different tracks.

When Riccardo and I first started on the my poem-to-his music project, it was a completely naÏve attempt to do just that, with nothing more than intuition and bonhomie as guidelines.

Nevertheless, the at first seemingly arbitrary selection of poems we made, on a what we liked most at the time basis, started to display a certain theme running through the different pieces which I unwittingly labelled ‘Beyond’. As the creative process went on it seemed appropriate enough, but with no specific notion attached.

It was only when we came to decide on the order of the playlist that we both had a sudden epiphany where everything fell into place; the progression from terrestrial to ethereal that the pieces suddenly represented made perfect sense. The concept is to release oneself from our mundane existence and to try to find some sense of meaning and harmony beyond the immediate world.

Thus we humbly present our, possibly the first ever, five-poem concept album EP.
