Alchemy by Sounds From The Ground
London's premier downtempo duo 'Sounds From The Ground' presents the digital version of their vinyl album which celebrated their twentieth anniversary out on Upstream Records last July. The digital album includes 2 unreleased tracks exclusively for this format. SFTG are one of the most prolific downtempo / electronica acts of the past two decades, releasing 11 studio albums to date, having countless tracks appear on various compilations, feature films and TV shows and also performing live at Glastonbury Festival as well as dj'ing around the globe from the U.S to New Zealand, gaining a worldwide following in the process. They are pioneers of ambient dub, although the dub element is more in the recording techniques (looping, echo, etc) and they are the masters of lovingly produced bass-lines that rumble, slide and snake their away around the room with enormous presence. 2014 marked the twentieth year of activity for Elliot Jones and Nick Woolfson and for the occasion, they dusted down some of the analog equipment in their studio to create a brand new album, 'Alchemy' which was released first on a limited edition heavyweight vinyl and now on digital on their label Upstream Records. Using the Yamaha C70, Arp Axxe, Korg MS20, Moog Rogue and the monster Roland TB303 to name but a few and firing them up to work alongside todays technology, Nick and Elliot have carefully planned a collection of 10 original tracks that reflect and capture their 20 years of music making together. This won’t just be an album to celebrate the result of this long time collaboration between the two producers, but a birthday gift for their fans and themselves. What Sounds From The Ground wanted to do with ‘Alchemy’ was to retrace their musical journey from 1994, when they released the legendary single ‘Triangle’. Following this goal, the new album moves from the psychedelic acidic ‘Sharpline’, to the dubby hypnotic indie’ish ‘Doves’, passing through the uplifting electronica styled ‘Cradle’ to the raw glitchy downtempo ‘Tilt’. With this LP, Sounds From The Ground connect the listener to their melodic and 3 dimensional analogue imagery, which has always been their trademark musical style for the past 20 years.
