Gnosis from Cathartes by Soriah
Gnosis is a wholly vocal performance. No instruments. This was a track was inspired by a series of Ayahuasca experiences Soriah had in the Amazon Basin of Peru in November of 2017. It conveys the intense and sometimes overwhelming experience on the Ayahuasca medicine. It is a profound spiritual test that takes the initiate (or in this case the listener) into the deepest darkest recesses of their psyche. The ambient insect sounds that give way to the energetic pulsing of the medicine that is revealed to be breathing and then a leap into the energetic cosmos.
Gnosis is the only track that was not recorded during the pandemic. It was recorded over several months at Champion Nation studios with Grant Chambers in Camptonville California in the Sierra Nevada foothills and was originally slated for a previous release.

Soriah is the stage persona for the internationally recognized artist, Enrique Ugalde. Soriah’s craft is a blending of traditional Khöömei (Tuvan Throat Singing), tempered with Soriah’s own visceral force. Soriah’s use of Khöömei as a transportive medium is an offering to nature in her own tongue, that of organic sound whether it be wind, water or the mimicry of animals.
