Absence from Ephemeral Things by Sophie Standford

The vocal melody on Absence was recorded at home soon after my mother died. Over the years I have continued to confront it, subjecting the fragments to many frustrated iterations of editing, layering and processing until the gentle, plaintive cycles and repetitions took on a disembodied lament of their own.

Noticing the minutiae, tracing encounters, where sights, sounds and smells of the real, the imagined and the remembered coalesce with the passing of time.

My practice is interdisciplinary layering digital and analogue processes through acts of quiet activism, listening, photography and unrehearsed performance within the parameters of a loosely defined framework which embraces the aleatory.
