Some of you might know that for a while I've been in the running to be the new Delia Derbyshire Professor Of Electronic Music at UCL. Well alas I bring you bad news - I got an email over the weekend telling me that I'd not got it - it's gone instead to Pharmakon - I mean, bloody Pharmakon !!!!! - what a phoney - some posho who hasn't got a clue which hole the oscillator goes in.
But here at Berlin-Jones Studio Number Seven we carry on regardless - and this Monday morning I've decided to start the week by challenging you with a piece of music which sounds a bit Delia Derbyshire-ish - ie very unpleasant indeed. It could be brilliant. No one knows anything.
Delia and I were friends way way back. She told me in great confidence that she was actually profoundly deaf. No one ever spotted it, thanks to her supreme confidence and breeding and beauty. Thank god that I too have all three of those things. Our only difference is that I can actually hear this stuff. I sometimes think that she was the luckier one.
