Yes it's been a while but that is always a good sign - ie that I've found better things to do than flaff around with music, which is just about the most desperate thing anyone can ever do. And if you've ever wondered why every musician you've ever met is a competitor in the Most Boring Twat In The Universe competition then just start flaffing around like they do and you'll know.
Today I was over at Barton beach with a friend. The water was great and the first time I went in a seal popped her head up about ten yards from me and I think she was being friendly but it was so unnerving. God what a day. Right now here at home the tops of my feet are burning like crazy but I am very happy and quite tired.
The man sitting nearest to us on the astonishingly quiet beach was reading the Financial Times and he told us he was a local and came down here on every nice day. Well what a nice way to fade away. My friend had made us a picnic. I am one of those useless people who(m) everyone knows is useless at everything and so they don't even bother to ask me to help them do stuff - they know it'll be even worse.
But I paid her back by buying her a restaurant lunch later, and though neither of us are properly retired yet it felt like we were - and we will be - and it's a bit exciting to plan ahead and think of how we'll fill the days - about 7 or 8 thousand of them, if the predictions are correct.
I plan to go against the grain. I will do nothing. Everything bores me. And the more "everything" there is, the more bored I get. I don't want to be sitting here trying so hard, I don't want to be talking to other people like I'm interested, I don't want to eat and get fat, I don't want anything, I was glad that the seal didn't have anything to say, I like my radio for never wanting me to say anything back, I like throwing away books that I've given-up-with on page 6, I especially love the moments when you meet beautiful people and just for a moment you think If Only but then they start talking and you have to pay them compliments to make them go away afterwards.
