Distant Hum from Osek by Sonicity

The field recording of the environment surrounding the white tailing ponds near Duchcov, with the Ledvice power plant looming both visually on the horizon and sonically in the background. This soundscape is not merely an environmental recording: nature manifesting itself in the calls of cuckoo birds and other wildlife — but never fully at peace. Their songs are layered over, pierced by (often drowned) beneath the deep mechanical noise that permeates the atmosphere. There is a tension here, an unsettling clash between the natural and the artificial…. a confrontation, a sonic testimony of an endless, dishonest, and morally fraught conflict between humans and nonhumans.
