I'm gettin' to that age
All my friends a'wanna make a bridesmaid outta me...
"Wear this dress! Fix the mess that you made out of your life!"

My family's been askin' me questions
But it's far worse when they start makin' suggestions
on who to be, how to act, how to get on the 'right track'

"Are you still single?"
"Don't you get lonely?"
"Have you ever even been in love?"
"Are you with him?”
“Is he with you?"
No matter what I do,
I can't really avoid what they all say
Every day, I'm wonderin'
Why can't you all understand?
It's a possibility that I don't really need a man

It's not that I swing the other way
Or operate in areas of gray
Try to get it through your head
I've other things to do instead
of waste my time caught up in love

Oh, take me for who I am
Not for the man who could be by my side
Don't make me live by the rules that you know
Were never really written down and besides
Alone isn't lonely and single's not a search
I can think of things far worse
Can't you?

“Are you still single?”
“Oh, what a waste!”
“Don't you know it isn't too late?”
“You've got a cat... well, that explains it!” and
“You'll find the one for you someday”

Say whatcha want
I don't want your set-up and
I don't need your advice cuz
I'm getting sorta fed up
with you thinking that it's wise
To put myself out there
To find some soulmate
cuz you say,
“Surely you want children so try out online dating”
Why is you think I'm holding back cuz I'm afraid?
'Commitment issues', ‘childishness'
'Superficial', 'risky business'
I don't care what you label it!

Yes, I'm still single
No, I'm not lonely
What's wrong with being by myself?
I'm not with him
He's not with me
No matter how you see it,
this kinda choice is nothing but my own
Happy alone; I call it...
'Independent and free!'
It's a possibility that I don't really need a man
