Batomu EP by Small Crab

Dublin-based Small Crab makes her Scuffed Recordings debut with her dubstep-inspired Batomu EP.

Small Crab has quickly built momentum in the past two years both as a DJ and producer, having played at clubs including Wire, Sneaky Pete’s, Venue MOT, Fitzroy, Soup as well as gigs across her home town of Dublin. As a producer, she has appeared on key underground labels like Early Reflex, Left Right & Centre and Intercept, picking up a feature in Mixmag’s ‘Spotlight’ series along the way as a new artist to watch.

Following on from her previous releases, Small Crab’s percussion-led approach continues to develop on her Batomu EP on London-based Scuffed Recordings, blending club-focussed and atmospheric elements to form a cohesive narrative over the EP’s three tracks.

While dubstep certainly shines through as one of the main influences on the EP, a smattering of other sounds are on show throughout the release - with two of the tracks clocking in at 160BPM, and Small Crab’s love of UK club genres manifesting itself in her use of percussion and warping bass synths. ‘I wanted this to be one for the dancefloor’, Small Crab explains; ‘The centrepiece is the bassline’.
