UVB-76 by Slipcast

Since the 1980’s their has been a radio signal buzzing from the dark depths of the wilderness somewhere outside the city limits of Moscow. With no known purpose and no apparent owner (The Russian Government has denied its existence) UVB-76 or, “The Buzzer” as it’s now affectionately called by radio enthusiasts has grown into its own legend. With websites and listeners from all around the world monitoring it daily. Noting exact times phantom phrases are heard or a strange melody is played breaking the monotony of its droning buzz. Just like other conspiracy theorists around the world the two musicians who make up the group, Slipcast found themselves just as enamored with the station. Going as far as taking loops and recordings from it and putting their own musical imprint on it - imagining not only that the station has a purpose in the first place but going even farther as to imagine a journey to the number station itself sonically.

Formed on the southern shores of Lake Ontario during the summer of 2019 the duo, Slipcast (comprised of John Ben and Bill Nelson) set out to explore the extremes of downtempo, drone and experimental. Recording completely separate from one another even pre pandemic the two have used the group to explore the concept of shared isolation.
