I took the long way to reach the Solway,
Sailing on the rivers underground,
Staring at memories, my brother with me,
Lost in caves caught by the tide.

I don't know how long I stood there looking out to sea,
Searching for the boy I used to be.

We drove for hours, the world was ours,
Swimming in the rivers underground,
From lakes to channels, our roads untravelled,
Follow stars we cannot see.

I don't know how long we watched the ships along the beach,
Missing heartbeats taken out of reach.

And when our eyes dried we watched the sunrise,
Shining on the rivers through the town,
Through falls and weirs, we held our fears,
Then I threw them in the Tyne.

Holding onto what we know could be.
