Outlet by Sensei

"As 2016 draws towards a close, it’s safe to say that Simply Deep have had a very positive year. The label’s highly abstract yet innovative catalogue of music most certainly stands out in a year packed with so many new projects and endeavours in UK bass music. To kick off 2017 the label has assembled a real kick start of an EP from artists entirely new to the Simply Deep roster. The breaksy sounds of Sensei take the reins with three fantastic original creations, accompanied by two great reimaginings. The title track ‘Outlet’ is a straight techy roller. Layers of super thick subs provide the groundwork for a chilling selection of percussive leads and atmospheric crashes.

Either side of the title track sit ‘Prosecution’ and ‘Show Me’. The first track ‘Prosecution’ introduces the EP with subtle flavours such as lo-fi perc stabs and sweeping noisy synths. ‘Show Me’ on the other hand carries on with a more typical techy approach focussing on sliced vocal lines and choppy ambient break patterns. Remix duty is provided by two more new faces to the Simply Deep family. Black Mags comes in first with his darkened rework of ‘Outlet’ which focusses pulsating stabs and subtle subs. The second remix is provided by one of 2016’s highflyers; Nuvaman. His redesign of ‘Outlet’ is a straight break-driven delight. Multiple LFO-infused bass sounds haunt the lower frequencies whilst precisely sliced break patterns do the rest of the running above.
