Midnight by Fluid Matter

"Parisian producer Fluid Matter (Fka Soft Matter) has joined the Simply Deep family for their 32nd EP release and their final Digital Only release for some time. Back in 2019 when Aerotonin visited Paris he saw firsthand all the musical talent that was harbored, artists such as Flore, Alt, Fechos, Background, SNKLS and the man in question Fluid Matter. It became clear that a release was in order.

Fluid Matter’s style is hard to pinpoint, it lies somewhere between Techno, Breaks, Dubstep and the UK 130BPM sound we always struggle so hard to cohesively title. Blending these various genres between 126 and 137BPM region Fluid Matter emerges with his own dark twist on Bass Music.

‘Loss’ features addictive Synth work alongside rolling percussion panned to perfection, ‘Dance With Demons’ focuses on cut-up breaks, stabbing bass notes and twinkling keys, similar to what you would expect from Tessela or Special Request with a more minimalistic approach. We arrive at ‘Midnight Dip’ which subtly takes a different approach with more UK Funky influence but still on a dark flex. We finish the release with a remix from another Paris resident Solma, his acid-like reimagining of ‘Midnight Dip’ is a solid 10/10, Solma adds new layers of tension and texture to the track without losing Fluid Matter’s original vision.

It is a pleasure to host this EP from Fluid Matter, truly he is such a creative individual worthy of your attention – one of the many talents lurking in Paris.

Originally this EP was destined for Blackfox Records but tragically Lorant the head of the label had passed away, Lorant had a keen ear for musical talent, he was always enthusiastic about upcoming releases and a pleasure to talk to. We hope we can give this EP as much love as he would have, sending all our love and thoughts to his family and friends."
