About 2 weeks ago there was a dead fox by the road near us. Then his mate started appearing in the daytime, having to do a double shift to feed the cubs probably. I knew we couldn't keep our hens in their vast rickety free-range run, and we didn't. On Sunday afternoon just gone we heard the hens making a racket and I went to look and there was the fox in the run - he'd killed most of the girls. One of the few survivors was our tiny docile very slow cockerel. Also, our tiny goslings were all all right. But they'll all go in the next few days. It would've been better if they'd all gone last Sunday. Surprisingly in this longlife of keeping livestock this is the first time I've ever lost anything to a fox. Everyone always promised that I'd feel terrible when it happened. But I felt nothing. That's the way it always is. That's the way it was when the idea of making music seemed impossible. You needed to go to the right schools and get an Oxbridge degree in prog rock which was only possible if your dad knew the right other dads. Now that it's this ridiculously easy I feel absolutley nothing and find it impossible to believe that anyone else feels anything.
