Southbound Placoderm by Encrypter
Southbound Placoderm brings together four tracks from Encrypter that highlight his wide range of creative output over the last few years. Each track began its life as a live recording from an all-hardware rig but have thankfully been edited down from their unacceptably long original versions into more palatable nuggets.
Britches harnesses a bass-driven stomp backed by FM twinkles and choral samples that pays homage to old Braindance oddness. Hula Suit Slug is a stripped back and saturated jungle banger filled out with manic arpeggiations and wistful strings. Another head nod to Warp comes in the form of JV Tomb 2080 Sorry which uses microtonal tuning and Genuine Analog Hiss™ to create an unsettling misty graveyard dancehall session. The four-tracker closes up with Judgement Dave which functions as part two of Hula Suit Slug. Using a similar sound palette but veering off onto a darker side street. Recreating the feel of a lost deep cut from the 90s with a heavy dose of wispy euphoria.
