Lyrics
Alone in darkness I remember
Days of youth and love and happiness
Now it’s gone everyone’s moved on
Memory’s the only thing I now possess
Looking at something in your eyes
Now all the moneys worthless
You smiled sanding in the doorway
Thank God I gave myself completely
Thank you for loving me so sweetly
Looking at something in your eyes
The big stuff is the small stuff
Small stuff is the big stuff
I have loved and I have been loved
That is enough.

Notes: Stylistically a mash up between An Die Musik by Schubert and Coney Island Baby by Reed – two of my favourite songs. Begins with an ‘independent tune’ that also gets used as an outro. I wanted an independent tune a bit like ‘Im Fruhling’ by Scubert. I’m haunted that I wasn’t with my father when he died. I should have visited him the day before. It was a huge shock to get the call from the care home that he had suddenly gone. I thought I had more time. I tried to write about what we might think when we can’t even write. Fin early Feb 25. Struggled with 2nd verse. When I die, like my dad, there probably won’t be anyone there so I want them to know this.
