Permanently Closed by Jake County And His Core Unit
The year was 2022. The season you ask? Spring. Drake County and I were waxing poetic about our neighboring counties and we fell onto the topic of Boone County. We both shared our memories and knowledge of the land, and went about our day.
As summer rolled on it came time to begin prepping for Harvard's legendary Free Punk Fest. The final one of its kind! Instead of preparing a real set, I wrote five brand new songs and threw in a couple covers. To honor our conversation I wrote a song about Boone County with the premise of the song being that, although Boone didn't have much, at least it had the Chrysler Plant in Belvidere.
Imagine my surprise and heartbreak when December rolled around and Chrysler announced they would be closing down their Belvidere location. What will Boone County be known for now?
Garden Prairie?
HA! I think not!
To honor Boone County and the former employees of the Chrysler plant the lyrics have not been altered. We will instead continue to pretend that the factory is still fully operational.
