Horizon Tides by Scott Ibex

Horizon Tides represents a monumental artistic leap from my past two records, Dragonbreath (2012) and Gratitude (2012). Produced and engineered by celebrated solo-acoustic guitarist, Antoine Dufour, the album features accompanying strings, synths, and percussion. The result is something of an orchestral dream fused with solo-acoustic guitar compositions that explore 7 alternative tunings. Initially inspired by the mantra, “If ye stay the tides and remain focused on the horizon, the future shall always be bright,” the album ultimately became the soundtrack for a soul.

My first bandmate and friend in Moab, UT, Daniel Moore, passed away in a tragic BASE jumping accident during the songwriting sessions which birthed this record. Ancient Incan concepts of animal allies representing life (the mountain lion), the underworld (the serpent), and the afterlife (the condor), set forth a conceptual thread to follow. The music conjured a mystic muse to honor safe passage for my friend’s soul. I hear it in every note. Listen for yourself and celebrate the life of a man who was beloved by many friends and family, and who is very much still in the hearts of those who knew him.
