Woodland Dream from Elmwood Station by Sarah Bauhan

In October 1977, Bob McQuillen went hunting in the Norwich, VT, woods and had an unusual experience. He said that a tune came to him in a dream, which had never happened before. Dick Nevell heard the story and turned the tune and the story of the dream into this wonderful song. It’s a prescient commentary on the corrupting influence of money—and the transformative power of music. Incidentally, Bob never hunted again after the dream. In a reprise from Bob’s memorial service when Susie, David, and I played it, I’m delighted to add Susie to our recording crew!

Sarah Bauhan is a flute and whistle player from New Hampshire who brings together family and long-time friends to share in performances and recordings. Over the years she has penned waltzes, laments, reels, and the like in honor of people who are dear to her.
