Deep Bath by Hello Spiral's

At the end of 2015 I decided I would experiment with the way I was producing music.
Since 2003 I had been painstakingly putting together tracks in a daw with (conceptual) tweezers. Moving tiny fragments of sound around in various, ever-complex patterns. Building audio matchstick models.

I decided it might be fun to do some things in realtime, some JAMS.

My method was, I would take a chance sound and I would prepare in earnest in the daw. I would construct a Rube Goldberg/Heath Robinson-esque arrangement of all the various possibilities I could think of from this sound.
I would then have all of these prepared audio contraptions muted but looping, and then have the audio recording into another laptop. So I could then slowly introduce all of these various dimensions in realtime while the daw looped.

I did around 15-20 of these jams before I got bored and moved on to something else. Here are three of my favourites (there are more to come)

U6875 (decaf mix) is the mellower version of the track I made that appears on Snoot Hunt. I realised after making the original that I had built up quite a nice pillow of ambient textures during the jamming out of the original track and decided to see what I could make from them. I have no memory of what the source sample was for this track.

Sköldpadda was made entirely from a recording of my cat (Korg) waking me up by standing on my chest while purring and rubbing her head on my face/the mic. She was a very small, longhaired tortoiseshell cat.
I had Korg for eight years. She died in October of 2022. I miss her dearly.

A Collection of Profitable Holes was made from recording a tiny fragment of the soundtrack of a very shitty Stephen King miniseries, recorded via my laptop’s inbuilt mic (on an impulse)
