So here's the premise spoken word a boring tune you've probably heard a less-than-grand piano played by heavy hands with clumsy chords
a sense of urgency a fire burning brightly but ignored
a desperate need a chance to speak at maybe saying something more
So here's to love
to hard won hope
imperfect sounds and sour notes
to every song we ever wrote

It's not unbearable the loneliness the sadness or the pain but the conviction that existence will persist somehow unchanged we've been in fog too long we don't recall the brilliant light of day and in this darkness it's so easy to assume we'll stay the same
So here's to beacons
Shining beams
from brightest flash to faintest gleam
to every light we've ever seen

Oh how we tried and how we bled and hoped to find escape with death woke disappointed but relieved still in this world we thought we left
that specter suicide unspoken yet still lodged inside our heads became a parasite a cloak a yoke a skin we haven't shed
So here's to blanks
to missing veins
to undone knots and stubborn saints
here's to all our best mistakes

There's not some simple charm some hex to break some curse you could dispel it's more ingrained it's more innate yet we're ashamed to ask for help our burdens bury us while we attempt to carry them ourselves when any other day we'd gladly lend a hand to someone else
So here's to throats that swallow pride
to heads held high
to arms entwined
to everybody on our side

And so I'll speak I'll scream I'll sing and still believe this is no dirge it's unimportant what I wrote what matters now is there's a verse I'm not sure what you need so everything I have is also yours while I'm afraid that I'll misspeak I'm certain staying silent is worse
So here's to love
to hard won hope

to facing fear
to crying out that we're still here
