Dream Dancer from Dream Dancer by Roy Peters / Native American Flute
This is the very first song I've recorded. It is a story song as are all of my songs. I tell stories . . .and my flutes are the voices . . .I do not write music . . .I remember my stories . . .for the most part.
Dream Dance is a song about a recurring dream that I have . . . .In my sleep I hear a voice calling my name . . .I awake and look around . . .nothing to be seen . . .it is a deep masculine voice with a soft glow to it . . .a very pleasing voice . . .At first I thought it was my father . . .but no it was not his voice . . .then I thought it was God . . .It got so I would sometimes hear the voice as I was working around the farm . . .In my dream it was winter . . .and the voice always leads me to a large open field with a few large pines here and there. It is lightly snowing and there is quite a bit of snow on the ground . . .I go to the base of a large white pine . . .and I sit there with my flute and I begin to play . . .as I look up I see the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed . .a woman dancing in the sky/clouds . . . .She is stunning and wearing nothing but clouds for clothing . . .As I continue to play . . . a very warm sensation hits me and somehow I am absorbed into the Great white pine . . . .I go up through the tree and end up standing in the sky . . .The beautiful dance flits and floats all around me . . .Every now and then her cloud clothing thins out to transparent and I am breathless with her beauty . . .In my dream I have never seen her face . . .This first song became the foundation of all my flute playing ever since . . . .Dream Dancer has much meaning to me . . .and on occasion I still hear that voice . . .and see that lady in the sky( even if only in my dreams) . . .The original oil painting was gifted to me by Birdy Lindner of the Oneida Indian Nation. I told her the story of my dream and she surprised me with it on an Easter Sunday many years ago . . .Thank you Birdy . . .
