Crisis in council chambers! After the sudden influx of new inhabitants, the villagers of Port Igby's scope had widened - suddenly, not just the verdant archipelago but the whole wide world was in front of them. How to cope with such rapid expansion!?
It was for the best, decided the mayor, with supporting votes from his loyal secretary, treasurer and minutes-taker, if the town christened new boats with bottles of their favorite soda-pops and set villagers to drift on the seas at their leisure. Some were content to lazily fish; others deep-sea dove and found new exciting forms of life under the depths; and the most adventurous found distant shores and began diplomatic relations with emissaries of other townships.
And while the little ships poured out of the port and back in again, the unknown alien visitors took to their silent, invisible crafts and composed indecipherable messages home about what they saw.
