This was a writing exercise at first, when that interview with Jacob Collier came out with him talking about negative harmony I put it into practice by re-harmonizing First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes, but also inverted the lyrics.:
That was the last day of my life/

They say it’d change but it stayed the same/
That was the hardest part/
I loved the chords so much that I used them on another song later in the album. I changed the initial lyrics to be more Tin-man from Oz related and following for the harmony I gussied up the chords to Jed's Other Poem (Beautiful Ground) by Grandaddy. I felt there was a line there from one struggling metal man to the other. I really like when something simple can change the meaning of a thing, reversing the chorus lines made it feel more hopeful which I wanted as we approach the turning point that is the middle of the album.
