2017 was also the year my family left NY, This is for them and the house I grew up in. This was one of the easier songs to write, all the words were right there on the surface.
Hands down this is my favorite song on the album, the band just knocked it out of the park and also I was able to get permission to use a quote from the theme of Autumn in Hieron, by Jack de Quidt, one of my favorite melodies of all time, from my favorite show. It meant so much to be able to use a piece of that song that reminds me so much of my old home. Desmond's versatility once again coming in clutch, the original melody was played on clarinet, & Des' bass clarinet was the absolute perfect tone for the part. The sound collage was one of the last things done on the album, I just couldnt bring myself to get to it, listening to those home videos made me real homesick, but I'm glad I was able to finally get it done. Fun fact the that sound in the beginning and end of the song is not a camera but the motor of the organ we used on the song
