Random Distributions by Roland Kayn

Did procedures reliant on probabilistic calculations play a role in Kayn’s later work? The title ‘Random Distributions’ may suggest as much, but the listener shouldn’t forget the role of intuition in this work. (The composer spent key formative years in an improvising ensemble, after all.) The reference is perhaps a more allusive one, pointing to the ever-increasing common ground between mathematics and nature, where discovery and creative self-discovery intertwine.
