Moth by Mound Dweller

This first release on 🪨 comes from MOUND DWELLER, whose work reached us through peculiar channels we hesitate to detail. After several exchanges of letters and objects, a single mini-disc arrived containing what would become MOTH.

We know little of the artist beyond what has been gleaned from our correspondence—someone (or group) who speak of deep time as if intimately familiar with its passage, who seems to archive sounds that exist at the edge of memory. Their methods and instruments remain undisclosed, though the results suggest both unconventional synthesis and captured resonances from spaces untouched by modern light.

This album marks their first documented release after years of private practice and study. We are honoured to present it as our inaugural offering, and trust that it will find its way to those who understand its purpose.

MOUND DWELLER first emerged from the margins of several obscure tape trading circles in the early 2010s. Operating from an undisclosed location, their earliest recordings were distributed only as hand-labeled cassettes accompanied by pressed leaves and soil samples.

Following several years of silence, MOTH represents both a continuation and departure from their previous works. While their characteristic sound remains, the project has evolved to incorporate field recordings allegedly captured in limestone caverns and abandoned mine shafts.
