Polly Vaughn from Spook Stories by RobHolden
A cautionary tale in which a young man mistakenly kills his true love. Jimmy is out shooting around dusk and thinking he is shooting at a swan kills Polly Vaughn.. Advised by his uncle not to run but to stand trial the star witness turns out to be Polly's ghost. She explains that to keep from getting wet in the rain she had pulled her shawl over her and Jimmy had obviously been mistaken. What jury wouldn't acquit ?
