This is a series of pieces that grew out of the 'cube mass' project (see cube mass album here: https://robgillthings.bandcamp.com/album/cube-mass). Just like the two pieces that are featured in the cube mass album, this began with an initial multi-track recording which I present as stage one. The tracks have not been rearranged in any way - they are positioned where I originally recorded them. With each stage in the process I applied a transformation to the material. In stage two I chopped up the recordings and arbitrarily rearranged them. Stage three: I ran the material through the audio scrubber in Premiere and in stage four I cut up the material from stage three into much smaller pieces than I did in stage two and distributed them throughout the tracks.

From Wikipedia, "In telecommunications, squelch is a circuit function that acts to suppress the audio (or video) output of a receiver in the absence of a strong input signal. Essentially, squelch is a specialized type of noise gate designed to suppress weak signals. Squelch is used in two-way radios and VHF/UHF radio scanners to eliminate the sound of noise when the radio is not receiving a desired transmission."
