Lyrics

I awoke. Throw the sheets. Check my phone. Read some tweets. Take a piss. Brush my teeth. Make breakfast. Brew coffee. Radio. CBC. Morning show. Host Marcy Marcusa. Turn it off, reminds me how I loathe this country. On my phone, I can stream videos and some memes, so I don’t have to think, just follow my routine like a zombie, like a ghost. I’ll be Peter Porco, a body without host, unconsciously load the dishwasher.

Oh shit. How am I only hearing this morning about Mark Kozelek? It’s been known for a minute, since before the pandemic. I hadn’t noticed yet. There was a youtube video about his issuing new music. I usually listen to his stuff in the morning doing dishes. The content creator (what we call them these days) mentioned the allegations and the Rolling Stone edition that detailed them. I scrolled my phone. Thought of earlier when he had said something dickish to a British journalist, hurling insults on stage in Brixton. Definitely inappropriate, but I went deaf and completely ignored it. The whole thing was probably blown out of proportion, it usually is, isn’t it? Well, he had that beef with War on Drugs. Elpee even got involved, and really that was all sorta dumb. Cool to see them interact I guess, the first 12 I copped was End to End Burners. I got an EPS, Elpee, I wanted my beats to sound like yours did. In the end, I thought he took Sole with Linda Tripp. But I learned long ago that artists aren’t heroes, I can still admire their lyrics though. I look up to revolutionaries, but when I heard Perils of the Sea, Gustavo was the last song I shared with my dad not long before he deceased. Passed on, a big fan of music, he’d tune into college radio. So as not to wake mom, he’d listen to songs on Dr. Dre headphones. I used to look up to rappers, had their pictures on my wall, proud until I had a girl over, and felt insecure, then tore them all down. I grew up and learned the truth about the Dalai Lama and Tibet. The CIA had the Beastie Boys brainwashing us with their politics.
