Harassor by HARASSOR
HARASSOR came together around 2003 while all of the band members were working at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. Sandor and I had already been playing in a noise band DEMOCRISY for a couple years. Every year Amoeba would throw a big live event called Amoebapalooza where the employee's bands would play sets, some of them had existing bands and some of them made up new bands just for the show. Being the resident metal heads, Sandor, Pete and myself talked about doing a black metal band one year. Sandor had a practice space at Downtown Rehearsals in downtown LA and we started jamming. There was a second guitar player Robert (we never had a bassist) and we called ourselves ANATHOTH. We recorded one song "Christ Hate" that appeared on "The Star-Shaped Blob" CD compilation of Amoeba bands. Eventually it became apparent that Robert was on a different creative path than the rest of the band and he decided to leave. So Sandor, Pete and myself wanted to come up with a new band name and start seeing what we could do. We tried for weeks to come up with a new band name, and we were so tired of thinking of names we started to get silly and I was thinking of stupid aggressive names like FIGHTER or PUNCHER or SHOVER and I think blurted out HARASSOR and we all stopped for a second...that didn't sound half bad. I believe our first show was at the Anarchist Library in Echo Park (Pete is much better remembering places and dates than I am!) and our second show was at Amoebapalooza. Once we got the ball rolling we started playing every show we were offered, all over Los Angeles.
Musically, we shared a vision of a primitive, raw and pitch-black take on black metal and punk. We were all influenced by Ildjarn and Von and other bands with a lo-fi simplistic approach. Once we felt ready we decided to record ourselves. We borrowed an 8-track recorder and used it to record these songs. They are very raw and lo-fi but looking back I think we were successful in capturing our early vision for the band. ~Horus
