Two weird takes on love. First up is cult rockabilly crooner and Elvis-meets-Conway-Twitty vocalist Joey Castle. Renowned for his short-lived rockabilly career as Joey C and also Cliff Rivers, he died aged 26 of cancer but not before dropping this real oddity. It starts like an Yma Sumac slice of ethereal easy listening before dropping into a plodding homage to wild love. Meanwhile, the rather better known Otis Rush opts for a more “violent” approach, with the kind of lyrics that wouldn’t be allowed these days. Two weird and wonderful antidotes to romance. Nice.
