Artist Statement – Cranberry Moon

Cranberry Moon is a deeply personal and collaborative musical journey, born from a time of profound transition and reflection. Created by two lifelong friends—Richard Goldin and Lawrence Grab—exploring the intersection of memory, creativity, and technology, this album is both a tribute and a discovery.

In the wake of personal loss and the threshold of retirement, we turned to music as a way to process, to connect, and to create something meaningful. Drawing inspiration from the rich storytelling traditions of Americana, we composed original lyrics and melodies that speak to love, grief, resilience, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

The majority of the tracks were recorded live using Ableton 11. Things like acoustic guitars, mandolin, bass guitar, Hammond B3, electric guitars and drum samples were all tracked leveraging the amazing capability of Ableton's take lanes, MIDI libraries and warp capability.

To bring these songs to life, we partnered with Suno AI—not as a replacement for human expression, but as a tool to help us shape and share our vision. We were intentional in our approach: we did not mimic any specific artists, nor did we use pre-existing material. Instead, we crafted our own voice—one that is both rooted in tradition and open to the possibilities of the future.

At the heart of Cranberry Moon is Cassandra Leatherbee Star, our avatar singer. She is a virtual vocalist created to interpret our original material with warmth, nuance, and soul. Cassandra is not a replica of anyone; she is a new voice, imagined and brought to life to carry our stories. Her name includes “Leatherbee,” Richard Goldin’s middle name, as a statement of identity and a tribute to his family legacy. In this way, Cassandra becomes not just a voice, but a vessel of memory, meaning, and continuity.

This album is not just a collection of songs—it’s a reflection of where we’ve been, what we’ve lost, and what we still hope to find. It’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t end with age or adversity. It evolves, just like we do.
