I want to run away from it all,
shut my eyes, throw my phone in the river,
cos when it's this close,
theres no relief, not even under the covers.

Do I have the right to switch off?
Safe and warm, my family here beside me.
and at what cost?
Thinly veiled self care, leaves my self respect declining.

Afraid of what to say?
When there are those, with their backs up, teeth bared, awaiting your fall,
you just hope it fades away,
you fear to slip, so say nothing at all.
Nothing at all.

Knowledge is power, but I feel powerless,
I could be ignorantly blissful,
is that a good enough defence?
The day is wasted, and I have nothing to show,
but this sinking feeling, pulling me below.

It doesn't help me be a better sister,
and it doesn't help me, say sorry when I'm pissed off,
and I already know, they're trying to separate me from my money,
it's funny, I already feel that my friends have all outdone me.

But if I turned away from it all,
who would I be?
